Prof. Dr. Jac Wismans

The Future of Road Vehicle Safety

Biography: Jac Wismans is owner of SAFETEQ, a consulting company in automotive safety in the Netherlands and visiting Professor in vehicle safety at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he is involved in, among others, safety of future road vehicles, global road safety and human body crash modelling.

From 1978-2008 he was employed by TNO in the Netherlands in several research and management positions. At TNO he was amongst others responsible for the development of crash dummies and the crash analyses software package MADYMO. He was research manager of the Safety department of TNO Automotive in Delft and manager of the Competence Centre for automotive research (CCAR). He was also co-ordinator of the European Passive Safety Network and the EU Integrated Safety Project APROSYS. He was member of the IRCOBI Council, the Stapp Car Crash Conference Advisory Board and the Commission Road Transport of the Dutch Traffic Safety Board. From 1989-2007 he was part-time professor at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands and from 2008-2009 Privat Dozent at the Graz University of Technology in Austria. He is author of numerous publications in the field of vehicle safety and received several awards including the US Government Award for Safety Engineering Excellence in 1991.
Prof. Dr. Thomas Tröster

Presentation Title:
Lightweight design with hybrid systems

Biograhy: Thomas Tröster is the chair of Automotive Lightweight Design – LiA at Paderborn University in Germany. His research work concentrates on high strength metals as well as fibre reinforced plastics and in particular on combinations of such materials to form innovative hybrid materials.

Research activities are centered around material development and investigation, production technology and simulation. He studied physics and subsequently worked as a research assistant in the area of high pressure physics at the University of Paderborn. After receiving his PhD in 1994 he worked as a Postdoc at the University of Campinas in Brazil. From 1995-2000 he returned to the University of Paderborn to finish his Habilitation. From 2000-2005 he was responsible for the R&D group “Materials Technology” at Benteler Automotive. From 2005-2007 he was Professor for engineering mechanics and physics at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne. In 2007 he took over the chair of automotive lightweight construction at the University of Paderborn.

Prof. Dr. Orhan B. Alankuş

Is the Future Autonomous and Electric ?

Biograhy: Orhan B. Alankuş graduated from  Ankara Fen Lisesi in 1972, and got his B. Sc. degree from METU Mechanical Engineering  in 1978.

In 1979 completed his master programme in the same department with the subject of  “Computer Aided Mechanism Design”.
In 1982, got his Ph.D degree on the subject of  “The Application of Microprocessors to Machine Tools” at Imperial College of  Science and Technology, London.

Before starting to work in TOFAS in 1984, worked in a research company  in London for two years.
In 1992, got his associate professorship degree in “Computer Aided Design and Production" area.
Has been employed  in TOFAS respectively as Computerized Production Systems Expert, Administrator of  Manufacturing Engineering Department, Vice Manager of Technical Services and R&D Director. At TOFAS, he has supported and managed the R&D projects related to Doblo, Palio, Siena, Albea and Minicargo ( Fiorino).

Between July 2006 and  January 2008 , he has undertaken the position of General Manager of the  Design and R&D Company of  TOFAS-FIAT, Platfom Inc., founded in Uludag Technology Development Zone . Between  2008 and 2009 , he acted as “Technology Consultant” in KOC Holding. Between  2009 and August 2011  , he has taken the position of “Technology and Environment Coordinator “ at Koç Holding.

Since September 2011, he acts as a Professor and Director of “Research and Project Develeopment at Okan University”  coordinating the Technology Transfer Office activities of the university.

He has many articles published in various national and international journal and symposiums.

His foreign languages are English and Italian and some limited German.

Prof.Dr. Giuseppe Carbone

Stepless transmissions: modelling and performance

Biograhy: Giuseppe Carbone was born in Bitonto, Bari - Italy on August 9, 1971. He is currently Full Professor of Applied Mechanics - Politecnico di Bari - Italy. He received the Mechanical Engineering Degree on February 1998 and in February 2002 the Ph. D. degree at Politecnico di Bari Italy. He is Rector’s Delegate for the Scientific Research and Technology Transfer. In 2010 he founded the Tribology Lab (http://tribolab.poliba.it), of which he is the Scientific Director. He is permanent Academic Visitor at Imperial College London. He is currently Visiting Professor at University of North Texas. From 2003 to 2009 he has been Visiting Scientist at Juelich Research Center – Juelich (D) and at the Eindhoven University of Technology – Eindhoven (NL).  His scientific interests focus mainly on tribology, biomimetics, superhydrophobicity, mechanical transmissions, and recently on collective intelligence and swarm robotics. He serves as Associate Editor of Chaos Solitons and Fractals, and of the journal Frontiers in Mechanical Engineering (Tribology Section). He is member of the Editorial Board of (i) Tribology International, (ii) Biomimetics, (iii) ISRN Tribology. He also served as Guest Editor, of Biomimetics, and of the journal Applied Science. He also acts as referee of more than 65 International Archive Journals, and served as external examiner of several  PhD Committee in outstanding Universities all over the Europe. He is also regularly invited as key-note speaker and plenary lecturer at congresses and conferences, and to publish invited papers on renowned archive journals. He acts as associate editor or member of the scientific board of international conferences. His H-index is 25 (source: Scopus). He authored more than 200 publications, of which about 110 in archive journals indexed in Scopus and ISI Web of Science. and controls, driveline and engine systems.
